Просмотров 648 месяцев назад
Five years ago, we commemorated 100 years since the end of the First World War by unveiling a statue at the entrance of Manchester Piccadilly Station. Named Victory Over Blindness, it stands as a monument to all the veterans we have supported since then. The best James Bond ever. I like how he mentioned Carly Simon’s song “Nobody does it better”. I believe that was “The Spy Who Loved Me” in 1977.

Thank god for these men. I look at the youth and think wow. What happened it's not their fault imo, technology has ruined everything. My grandfathers generation really tough, my dad's tough mine we thought ee were tough. The current youth coward's. Stabbing from behind usually. Direct opposite of what we need.

I've just today read Damien Lewis' re-telling of this story in his book, "Brothers in Arms". Rest in Peace Mr Sadler. The world needs now, more than ever, honourable, disciplined, men and women like yourself and your colleagues from that point in history. People for whom integrity, loyalty and honesty are at the very core of their existence.

5:25 My grandad (John Joseph Folan) was a stoker in the Navy during the war. He was born in western Ireland and was very much working-class and I suspect at least one of those things was true of all of them, hence why they got paid less for doing more work.
